Good Urban Design

The March edition of our blog is dedicated to the matter of urban design excellence.

The matter brings our attention to Ontario, where most recently excellence in urban design has been singled out as the reason the development approval process across the province is severely delayed, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars and contributing to the housing affordability crisis gripping the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Region.

The Council for Canadian Urbanism stands in its conviction and believe that excellence in urban design is a matter that needs to be addressed at the site plan process not only as an intrinsic component of the community building process but as a matter of good business.

We are sharing our organization’s letter to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to invite you to share your ideas and comments and to become involved in the conversation of how excellence in design helps sha pe the places where you want to live, work and play.

Leveraging the current discussion, let us engage in a conversation on how the kind of livable and resilient urban environments necessary in the growth of our region can be advanced through a stronger and clearer development process… not to do so comes at our own and future generations peril…

We look forward to your ideas and input.
