Director, Calgary Building Services

Reporting to the General Manager of Planning & Development, and as a member of the Senior Management Team, the Director, Calgary Building Services provides leadership of front-line customer service for all planning and development services. Calgary Building Services has shifted towards a service-based delivery model and leads the industry through online submissions, available resources, and a streamlined development approvals process. The business unit’s top priority is the customer experience. The portfolio uniquely combines three divisions: Development Approval and Building Safety, Business Services, and Development, Applications and Licensing Services. With a team of 340 staff and $65M operating budget, the Director collaborates with leaders from across the corporation to ensure services are fully integrated and focused on customer, citizen and community. The Director partners with other departmental business units (Community Planning, Calgary Growth Strategies and Calgary Approvals Coordination) to produce thoughtful, collaborative and impactful work that makes Calgary a “great place to make a living, a great place to make a life” for the citizens of Calgary. The Director also works closely with members of Council and meets regularly with industry partners, developers and community leaders.

With your degree and more than 10 years of senior leadership experience, you are an executive in the building and development industry, current in the latest trends and advancements, and have excelled in complex and multi-stakeholder organizations. Your approach is practical, solutions-oriented and driven by a desire to provide outstanding customer service. You see the big picture and enable others to do the same. You are regarded highly for your political acumen and rationality as you transform what seems impossible to reality.
